Hi! I’m Patricia Garcia and I’m a Brazilian-Canadian living in Ottawa with my husband and our three young girls. As you can imagine, with them, life is as full as it can get but I wouldn’t change it for the world: they keep me creative and young at heart!
I’ve been passionate about art and all things creative for as long as I can remember. From a young age, I was always drawing or painting. At university, I studied communications with a background in graphic design and advertising, and later on I pursuit a Master’s in Social Psychology. I ended up moving my career to office related jobs. Maternity came with the busyness of life I spent a few years without touching a brush. But I couldn’t silence my artistic sparkle for long… Overwhelmed, stressed and willing to feel alive again creating something, one day I decided to play with my daughters’ watercolour paints and I was hooked – it was a gift from Heaven and I found my happy place again. Although I still have my full-time job, I decided to dedicate my artistic career to watercolors. I love how versatile this medium can be. You can paint with utter control if you are into hyperrealism or you can just go with the flow, and let your artwork come to life bringing you a few surprises on their own if you prefer a loose and spontaneous style.
I’d say that my artwork is in between both styles – I see it as a creative interpretation of the beauty I admire in nature. I’m hugely inspired by poetic skies, dynamic wildlife, and luminous flowers – most of my work revolves around these themes. Canadian winters are long, and I like to be surrounded by the strong elegance and grace of nature: it’s like a joyful breath of life all year round even when I’m indoors.
Painting and expressing myself artistically it what I was made to do and it certainly helped to keep my mental health in check through many rough chapters of my life. That’s why teaching is another passion of mine. Passing my knowledge to others is my mission because I know how much art matters and want people to experience the same joy I feel when I’m painting. If you want to know more about my classes, you can check my Art Studio (LINK TO OLIVE TREE) or visit my blog (LINK) with plenty of tips and tricks for those who are always eager to learn something new. Thank you for stopping by and I hope my paintings inspire you and brighten your day!
